ENOC to convert used cooking oil into biodiesel in Dubai
Signed at WETEX 2026, the agreement explores collecting the oil from restaurants, businesses and households for processing at ENOC’s Jebel Ali biodiesel plant.
ENOC Group and Dubai Municipality have agreed to explore collecting used cooking oil across Dubai and converting it into biodiesel at ENOC’s plant in Jebel Ali. The agreement was signed during WETEX 2026 and is linked to the UAE Circular Economy Policy 2031.
Under the partnership, Dubai Municipality will coordinate and oversee a collection system covering restaurants, businesses and households, helping to prevent improper disposal of the oil. ENOC would contribute its fuel production and supply expertise, as reported by TradeArabia.
“Meeting the UAE’s future energy needs requires us to expand access to cleaner fuels and make better use of the resources already available to us. Turning waste into fuel can help address both priorities, strengthening local production capabilities while supporting the transition to a lower-carbon economy,” said Ali Khalid bin Zayed Al Falasi, Deputy Managing Director of Commercial and Retail at ENOC Group.
ENOC introduced Biodiesel5 to the UAE market in 2017 and supplies it to transport, logistics and construction customers. Al Falasi signed the agreement with Eng. Adel Mohammed Al Marzouqi, CEO of Dubai Municipality’s Waste and Sewerage Agency. The signing was witnessed by Dubai Municipality Director General Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita and ENOC Group CEO Hussain Sultan Lootah.
“Converting used cooking oil into lower-carbon biofuel demonstrates how innovative solutions can support the development of sustainable energy alternatives while reducing the environmental impact of waste,” said Al Marzouqi.
