Essar expands retail network as Stanlow reports record year

A key driver of the company’s performance has been the expansion of its retail footprint.

Essar Energy Transition has announced a year of record domestic sales and rapid network growth, following major investment at its Stanlow refinery in Ellesmere Port.

Throughput at the refinery rose by 8% in 2025, pushing dispatch volumes close to historic highs. The company said this reflected both strong UK demand and improved operational efficiency following a $100m refinery “turnaround”, part of a wider $350m upgrade that also delivered the UK’s first hydrogen‑ready furnace.

A key driver of the company’s performance has been the expansion of its retail footprint. Essar‑branded forecourts have now grown to 58 sites, while more than 100 dealer‑owned forecourts receive fuel via Essar’s supply network. A December “price drop” campaign at company‑leased sites also helped increase consumer demand and strengthen brand presence.

Chief executive Deepak Maheshwari said the results underscored Stanlow’s ongoing importance to the UK’s energy system.
