European hydrogen network to be developed by Air Products

The initiative aims to connect key locations across Europe and foster a safe and resilient hydrogen ecosystem.

Air Products plans to develop a network of commercial-scale hydrogen stations along major transportation routes near the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). This initiative aims to connect key locations across Europe and foster a safe and resilient hydrogen ecosystem.

The new HRSs will feature advanced fueling technology, multiple pressure options, and onsite liquid hydrogen storage, facilitating liquid fueling. As part of a comprehensive European hydrogen network, these stations will ensure reliability and convenience for heavy-duty hydrogen-powered transportation.

The HRSs will be supplied with renewable hydrogen from Air Products' global network, ensuring a consistent energy supply for heavy-duty transportation. This includes a second hydrogen liquefaction plant under construction in Rotterdam, which will double Europe's liquid hydrogen capacity upon completion.

In partnership with Daimler Truck, Air Products has deployed a mobile fueling station in Duisburg for a pilot project involving five Mercedes-Benz GenH2 trucks. This initiative will provide insights into liquid hydrogen fueling and contribute to the development of a robust hydrogen ecosystem. Air Products is also trialing a GenH2 truck within its distribution fleet to gain practical experience in industrial gas transportation.

Seifi Ghasemi, Chairman, President, and CEO of Air Products, emphasized the importance of logistics in their business and the role of hydrogen-powered vehicles in achieving sustainable transportation. He highlighted Air Products' expertise in renewable hydrogen production, transportation, and distribution.

This initiative marks a significant step towards building a comprehensive hydrogen refueling network, supporting the transition to sustainable heavy-duty transportation in Europe.
