EVgo, Kroger launch major fast-charging expansion across U.S.

The plan includes at least 150 new stalls annually through 2035, supporting EV adoption at retail destinations.

EVgo is scaling up its collaboration with Kroger to make electric vehicle (EV) charging more accessible for shoppers in the U.S. The company plans to install at least 150 fast-charging stalls annually through 2035 at Kroger Family of Stores locations across the country.

The initiative builds on a partnership launched in 2022 and will bring up to 16 high-power chargers per site, enabling drivers to recharge while shopping. The first location under the expanded program is already operational in Salt Lake City, Utah, with additional sites planned in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Texas, Washington and other states.

Chargers will be deployed at Kroger-owned banners including Fred Meyer, Fry’s, Harris Teeter, King Soopers, Foods Co., and Smith’s.

“Adding fast charging to Kroger locations will provide the growing number of EV drivers an essential amenity—the convenience of charging where they shop while empowering drivers with the freedom to choose electric,” said Badar Khan, CEO of EVgo.

Stations will feature the company’s high-power technology, capable of delivering a full charge in as little as 15 minutes, aligning with typical grocery visit times. Beyond convenience, the rollout is expected to boost foot traffic and spending at nearby businesses.

EVgo currently operates over 4,600 stalls nationwide and projects more than 15,000 stalls energized by 2029, reinforcing its role in supporting the country’s transition to electric mobility.
