FamilyMart has begun rolling out a new generation of ATMs developed by Seven Bank, marking a significant upgrade to its in-store financial services infrastructure. The first units were made available to customers this week at a store in Tokyo’s Minato Ward.

The initiative is part of a long-term plan to replace approximately 16,000 existing ATMs across FamilyMart’s nationwide network by 2030. The move underscores the growing integration of financial services within convenience retail, as operators seek to enhance customer value through everyday banking access.

Once deployment is completed, the number of Seven Bank ATMs operating within FamilyMart stores, combined with those already installed in Seven-Eleven locations, is expected to surpass the network size of Japan Post Bank, currently the country’s largest ATM provider.

FamilyMart President Tatsuo Odani described the rollout as “an important first step toward a new phase of growth,” highlighting the strategic importance of financial services in the company’s broader offering.

The collaboration reflects closer ties between convenience store operators and financial service providers. Seven Bank, an affiliate of retail group Seven & I Holdings, brings established expertise in ATM operations, particularly within the Seven-Eleven network.
