FincoEnergies and Scan Global Logistics (SGL) have expanded their collaboration with the launch of a biofuel swap solution aimed at reducing carbon emissions from road transport without requiring changes to vehicles or logistics operations.

The initiative, known as Biofuel Swap, allows Scan Global Logistics to offer customers immediate and verifiable CO₂e reductions through the use of certified HVO100, a biodegradable biofuel. While the fuel is physically used in trucks operating in the Netherlands, customers worldwide can claim the associated emissions reductions using a book‑and‑claim model.

The partners said the solution addresses a key challenge in road transport decarbonization: limited access to sustainable fuels such as HVO along major routes and the difficulty logistics providers face in deploying renewable fuels across owned or contracted fleets.

The Biofuel Swap model separates the environmental benefit from physical fuel use, enabling customers to report verified Scope 3 emissions reductions. Participants also receive traceable and auditable CO₂e data designed to integrate into corporate emissions reporting.

The program builds on a pilot project launched in 2023, during which FincoEnergies and Scan Global Logistics tested insetting approaches for road transport.
