Galp, BMW unite for e-mobility push in Spain
Both companies have agreed to install 25 charging stations and 100 ultra-fast chargers throughout the country.
Galp and the BMW Group have partnered to install a series of charging stations across Spain, to kick off the fuel retailer’s strategy to install 10,000 charging points by 2025. The agreement involves creating 25 ultra-fast charging sites with a total of 100 180 kW ultra-fast chargers along the main middle-distance and long-distance corridors of the country.
The installation process also involves powering each new charger with renewable energy by installing solar panels in each location. Drivers will be able to charge 80% of their vehicles’ battery in approximately 15 minutes.
“This agreement goes far beyond the creation of ultra-fast charging corridors in Spain, it is a firm commitment to the implementation of electric mobility at every point of the national territory, so that all communities move towards a decarbonized model in an orderly, shared and fair way, leaving no one behind,” commented João Diogo Marques da Silva, Country Manager of Galp Spain and Head of B2C at Galp Iberia.
In addition, both companies will collaborate in the development of open-innovation initiatives through Galp 's Upcoming Energies program. BMW is set to participate in the creation of synergies, co-creation and cooperation for the development, launch and commercialization of projects related to e-mobility.
"This alliance consolidates the Group's commitment to continue offering charging solutions to our customers who are looking to use electric mobility on their longer journeys and from now on we can offer them strategic points at which to recharge more than 150 kilometres of additional autonomy while resting for 10 minutes," explains Manuel Terroba, Executive President of BMW Group Spain and Portugal.
Galp Electric plans to deploy more than 500 ultra-fast charging points throughout its over 570 service stations and other locations in Spain by the end of the year. The firm currently has over 1,000 ultra-fast chargers installed and distributed throughout the Iberian Peninsula.
