Galp introduces new sustainable model for service stations in Spain

The brand aims to transform its new locations into mobility hubs by focusing on energy efficiency, alternative fuels and and digitalisation.

Galp has amped up its effort amidst the transition of the fuel retail industry by unveiling a new project for transforming the brand’s service stations into mobility hubs. These new destinations will be centred on sustainability and comfort, leveraging the advances and ubiquity of new digital technologies.

The company presented this new model via its recently inaugurated station located in Alcobendas, Madrid. This commitment responds to new consumer trends, derived from customers' lack of time and the proliferation of convenience stores with extended hours.

"Our goal is to offer multi-energy and sustainable mobility solutions, as well as to evolve the concept of the service station from a place of transit to a place of destination, helping to optimize the customer experience through technology," said João Diogo, Country Manager of Galp Spain and Head of B2C at Galp Iberia.

The brand has renewed the image of its stations, focusing on making them a more welcoming space. In regards to energy, the firm has committed to be more efficient and responsible, through the installation of solar panels for self-supply of electricity, promoted by Galp Solar. It is estimated that this installation will help to avoid the emission of almost seven tons of CO2 per year.

Another key element in the company's transformation is digitisation, integrating mobile payments for refuelling and electric charging as well as promotions in real time for customers through its Mundo Galp loyalty app. Over 600,000 are already interacting digitally with stations, a development spearheaded by the launch of its own autonomous store back in May.

Galp aims to ramp up the transformation of its fuel retail network in Spain, which consists of 557 sites. The firm has already transformed 100 points of sale throughout 2022 in Iberia.
