Gasrec breaks ground on new Bio-LNG refueling site

New station at Hams Hall aims to support growing demand for low-carbon fuel in the UK freight sector.

Gasrec has begun construction on a large-scale open-access biomethane refueling station at Hams Hall, Warwickshire, near the strategic motorway junction of the M6 and M42 in the West Midlands of England. 

The facility is set to open next September, marking the company’s second major public Bio-LNG site and the first in a new wave of nationwide infrastructure expansion. The new site will initially be capable of refueling up to 300 gas-powered trucks per day, with plans to scale up capacity to serve 1,000 vehicles daily as demand grows. 

Equipped with seven Bio-LNG dispensers, the facility has been designed for high throughput and will include an advanced fueling system to reduce wait times during peak usage.

Hams Hall represents the latest phase in Gasrec’s push to support the decarbonisation of heavy goods transport. The company plans to roll out additional public-access biomethane stations in Warrington, Avonmouth, and other yet-to-be-announced locations over the next two years. 

These will complement its flagship DIRFT (Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal) facility, along with its broader network of Bio-LNG and Bio-CNG sites.

“The state-of-the-art facility at Hams Hall marks a step change in the direction of the Bio-LNG industry in the UK. It will allow an increasing number of fleet operators to go green with confidence,” said James Westcott, Chief Commercial Officer at Gasrec. 

Gasrec currently operates 18 biomethane refueling stations, serving some of the UK’s largest logistics fleets, including Asda, Tesco, John Lewis, B&Q, DHL, and Ocado.
