H2 Mobility opens hydrogen station at Hannover Airport logistics hub
The new facility will serve trucks, buses and passenger vehicles, while supporting hydrogen-powered freight transport trials with regional logistics operators.
H2 Mobility has begun trial operations at a new hydrogen refueling station near Hannover-Langenhagen Airport, expanding access to hydrogen infrastructure for commercial transport in northern Germany.
Located close to Hannover Airport and the A2 and A7 motorways, the station is positioned along the European North Sea-Baltic transport corridor, providing hydrogen refueling access for both regional fleets and long-haul freight operators.
The facility features two dispensers capable of serving trucks, buses and passenger cars. Vehicles can refuel at pressures of 350, 500 or 700 bar, with a typical refueling process taking between five and ten minutes. The station is supplied with green hydrogen that complies with the European Union's Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) requirements.
As part of the opening, Schreck + Batz Logistik, a logistics company based in Langenhagen, began testing a Hyundai XCIENT Fuel Cell truck in real-world operations. The vehicle will be used on routes around Hannover that are currently served by diesel trucks, including deliveries to retail stores.
“We have already tested battery-electric and LNG trucks. We see hydrogen as one of the most promising powertrain options for heavy-duty transport,” said Peter Röskes, Managing Partner of Schreck + Batz Logistik.
The project received up to €5.8 million in funding from Germany's Federal Ministry of Transport through the National Innovation Programme for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology. H2 Mobility said the new location supports the continued rollout of hydrogen infrastructure for freight transport while helping businesses evaluate hydrogen-powered vehicles under everyday operating conditions.
