Iberis Capital acquires majority stake in Dourogás GNV in Portugal
Over €30 million investment to scale biomethane-powered transport infrastructure, with Dourogás management remaining onboard.
Private equity firm Iberis Capital has acquired a majority stake in Dourogás GNV, the vehicular natural gas division of the Dourogás Group. The deal, worth over €30 million and involving co-investor Mello RDC as well as the company’s existing management team, is expected to accelerate the expansion of sustainable fuel alternatives for heavy-duty transport.
Dourogás GNV has become a pioneer in supplying biomethane to the Portuguese transport sector. In 2024, more than half of the company’s fuel sales came from biomethane, significantly surpassing Portugal’s 13% regulatory target for biofuels.
“We already offer the most sustainable alternative to fossil fuels in the heavy goods and passenger transport segment. Our aim is to further increase the share of biomethane and expand our filling station network,” Pedro Oliveira, CEO of Dourogás GNV.
Iberis Capital sees long-term value in Dourogás GNV’s model, which substitutes fossil natural gas with renewable biomethane, enabling public buses and freight fleets to transition to net-zero emissions.
“This business unit offers a proven model for replacing fossil fuels in transport. We believe this investment can significantly boost the growth of clean mobility in Portugal,” said Diogo Chalbert Santos, Partner at Iberis.
The acquisition was made alongside Mello RDC and members of the Dourogás GNV leadership team, who retain minority stakes in the company. This structure ensures continuity while injecting fresh capital for development.
