JET encourages sustainability via RECUP partnership in Germany
The fuel retailer will offer customers the option to acquire reusable cups for hot and cold drinks in an effort to reduce single-use waste at each location.
JET service stations that have bistro offers are implementing RECUP's sustainable deposit cups for customers in Germany to push for sustainability and reduce waste. The reusable system involves the deposit of 1 euro so that it can be returned to one of over 16,000 drop-off points across the country and replaced by a fresh RECUP cup.
Customers no longer have to think about their own reusable to-go cup when they leave home, they can simply borrow it spontaneously every time at any RECUP partner’s facility. After partnering with ORLEN, the company has added one more German service station network to its service to leverage on the need for sustainability initiatives by this sector.
According to brand eins’ Coffee Report 2020, more and more people who don't want to give up their favorite hot beverage on the go are choosing a reusable cup over a disposable one. Only 35.8% of the to-go drinkers surveyed said that they choose exclusively disposable cups, 45% less than four years ago. This development shows that customers are attaching ever greater importance to environmentally friendly alternatives and are ready for a reusable system that reduces tons of single-use waste.
JET stations are now part of the RECUP depot system, which means that drivers can purchase their own sustainable cup, buy a temporary one if they forgot theirs at home or exchange their used one for a new one at one of the retailer's locations.
