Lawson expands RV parking service to new regions
The convenience store operator will add RV parking facilities at nine stores in Gifu and Mie prefectures, following strong demand for overnight vehicle stays during Japan’s holiday travel periods.
Lawson will expand its RV parking service to additional locations in Japan, introducing the offering at nine stores across Gifu and Mie prefectures from October 9.
The initiative, developed in partnership with Glory and the Japan RV Association, converts convenience store parking areas into designated overnight parking spaces for travelers. The expansion will add four locations in Gifu and five in Mie, bringing the total number of participating Lawson stores to 37.
The retailer said both prefectures were selected due to their popularity as road-trip destinations. Gifu is home to tourist attractions such as Takayama and Nakatsugawa and has one of the highest concentrations of roadside stations in Japan, while Mie attracts visitors to sites including Ise Grand Shrine and the Ise-Shima area.
Lawson began testing the RV parking concept at stores in Chiba Prefecture in July 2025, responding to growing demand for vehicle-based travel and overnight stays. Since then, the program has expanded to 28 stores across Chiba, Saitama, Shizuoka and Aichi.
According to the company, reservations for the current network exceeded 50% ahead of Japan’s Silver Week holiday period, which begins on September 19 and includes a five-day consecutive holiday for the first time in 11 years. Nine participating stores recorded bookings for four of the five holiday dates.
The retailer plans further expansion later this year, including locations in Kyushu, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Shikoku and Miyagi Prefecture, with a goal of operating RV parking facilities at approximately 70 stores by the end of fiscal 2026.
