Lawson and KDDI have launched an Office Lawson store inside Kyocera’s headquarters in Kyoto, marking the first deployment of the office-focused convenience store model at a company outside the KDDI group.

The new location spans two floors of Kyocera’s headquarters cafeteria area and is designed to serve different workplace needs. The 11th floor focuses on meal options such as bento boxes and rice balls, while the 12th floor offers coffee, snacks and confectionery products.

The concept was developed to address growing demand for convenient workplace shopping as employees return to offices more frequently. The model also aims to reduce congestion at nearby convenience stores during peak periods, particularly lunch breaks.

Unlike traditional stores, the format uses modular retail units that can be installed without major construction work. Customers make purchases through the dedicated Office Lawson app, which allows products to be scanned and paid for directly on a smartphone without a staffed checkout counter.

Lawson and KDDI have previously operated office-focused stores at KDDI locations in Tokyo, Osaka and Shinjuku. Following a pilot launched at KDDI's Tama Center office in 2026, the companies plan to expand the model to additional corporate workplaces as they work toward commercializing the business by fiscal year 2027.
