Murphy USA plans 40 new c-stores by end of 2025

Expansion supports its long-term goal of 500 new-build c-stores by 2033.

Murphy USA is accelerating its growth strategy with plans to open 40 new-to-industry convenience stores by the end of 2025. These upcoming sites are part of the company’s ambitious long-term initiative to open 500 new-build c-stores by 2033.

The program, launched in 2023, aims to modernize the company’s retail footprint, as newly built stores with updated designs are reportedly outperforming older locations. According to C-Store Dive,  the company announced the 40-site expansion during its second-quarter earnings call, as Chief Financial Officer Galagher Jeff confirmed the expansion target.

Speaking to investors, Jeff said the move would represent eight more new-to-industry openings than in 2024. Looking further ahead, President and CEO Andrew Clyde added that the chain anticipates opening 50 new stores over the next 12 months, extending into early 2026.

Murphy has already opened 14 new stores in the first half of 2025, with 40 additional sites currently under construction, according to Jeff. The company plans to break ground on another 10 locations in the coming weeks.

The expansion reflects Murphy USA’s continued investment in modernized convenience retailing and its commitment to growing its presence in key markets across the United States.
