Murphy USA has begun rolling out an autonomous foodservice platform in select larger-format stores, expanding its food offer through a partnership with Automated Retail Technologies (ART) and White Castle.

The initiative brings ART’s automated hot-food system to Murphy USA locations, enabling customers to purchase prepared White Castle menu items directly from a self-contained unit. The kiosks are designed to deliver hot food on demand while requiring less space and infrastructure than a traditional restaurant or commercial kitchen.

According to Murphy USA, the platform responds to growing demand for convenient food options that fit quick trips and on-the-go consumption occasions. Customers place orders through a touchscreen interface, with food prepared and dispensed automatically in approximately two minutes.

The retailer said the deployment will help assess how autonomous foodservice can complement its existing operating model while enhancing the customer experience.

“We’re continually evaluating opportunities that create additional value for our customers while building on the strengths that have made Murphy USA successful,” said Scott Woodward, Senior Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer at Murphy USA. “This relationship allows us to introduce a new convenience offering informed by customer insights, while maintaining the operational discipline and focus on everyday value.”

White Castle was selected as the launch brand for the platform, extending the restaurant chain’s presence into convenience retail through an automated format.

Murphy USA operates more than 1,800 convenience stores across 27 U.S. states and serves approximately two million customers daily. The company said the pilot reflects its broader strategy of exploring technologies that can drive additional traffic, food sales and long-term growth.
