NATSO appoints Max McBrayer as new CEO
Former RaceTrac executive takes the helm to guide the organization into its next chapter.
NATSO, the national association representing truck stops, travel centers, and off-highway fuel retailers in the United States, has named Max McBrayer Jr. as its new President and Chief Executive Officer.
The appointment marks a leadership transition following the tenure of Darren Boyd Schulte, who has served as Interim CEO since January 2025. Schulte will continue in his established role as Vice President of Membership while McBrayer will also serve as President of the NATSO Foundation.
McBrayer brings over 40 years of executive leadership in the fuel retail and transportation energy sectors. His career includes senior roles at RaceTrac Petroleum, Inc., where he served as CEO, as well as President positions at Metroplex Energy and The Ethanol Corporation. His extensive background spans both traditional and renewable fuels, giving him a broad view of the challenges and opportunities facing the industry.

NATSO Board Chairman Joe Zietlow welcomed the appointment, emphasizing McBrayer’s deep industry knowledge and strategic leadership capabilities. “We are confident in his ability to help NATSO navigate the future while continuing to advance the success and profitability of our members,” said Zietlow.
McBrayer’s appointment comes at a time of major transformation in the energy and mobility sectors, with NATSO playing a key role in representing member interests in areas ranging from infrastructure and policy to energy transition and innovation.
