Oryx Energies takes over 60 of Sonacop’s stations in Benin

Following the liquidation of the forecourt operator, Oryx has stepped up to own the retail assets.

Oryx Energies is taking over 63 service stations in Benin previously owned by the Société Nationale de Commercialisation des Produits Pétroliers (Sonacop) retail division. The news comes after the forecourt operator’s liquidation was confirmed.

“Oryx Energies has been present in Benin since 1997 and has continued to grow with customers, employees and the Beninese community. Today marks a new turning point in its desire to offer even more services and quality products,” the company stated in a press release.

Back in June, it was confirmed that Sonacop’s retail units were part-privatized amidst its debt crisis. In addition, it was announced that its remaining assets were set to be transferred to other functioning state entities or sold.

Oryx has stated that it has the capacity to develop strategically and to act with the community to offer a denser network of service stations. The installations will be located closer to its consumers, equipped with the best facilities and served by employees fully trained to meet all needs.

Although the announcement was made last Tuesday, since the 25th of January the company has already been in action at 5 service stations of the new network.
