Plugit has acquired the electric vehicle (EV) charging business of Finnish energy company Helen, expanding its network and becoming the largest charging operator in the Helsinki metropolitan area by number of public charging points.

The transaction includes Helen’s network of 199 public charging stations and 798 charging points, which currently serve more than 55,000 users. The acquisition strengthens Plugit’s presence in the Uusimaa region, home to nearly half of Finland’s fully electric vehicle fleet.

The company said the deal supports its strategy to grow in areas where demand for charging infrastructure is increasing most rapidly. The Helsinki metropolitan area also accounts for more than half of Finland’s electric company cars, making it a key market for public charging services.

“This acquisition represents a significant strategic step for us,” said Johan Mild, CEO of Plugit. “Helen’s charging business complements our network perfectly and strengthens our position in the Helsinki metropolitan area, where demand for charging services is growing rapidly.”

Following the acquisition, Helen’s charging customers will transition to Plugit’s platform and gain access to a broader charging network through a single application. The company serves both private and business customers and is also developing charging solutions for commercial transport and heavy-duty vehicles.

The network acquired from Helen will be integrated into Plugit’s existing charging operations, further expanding its footprint in one of the country’s most important EV markets.
