Sheetz eyes Michigan for expansion

The retailer will open a location in the city of Detroit by 2025 as its first foray into a new state in nearly twenty years.

Sheetz announced plans to expand into the state of Michigan with a new store opening to be completed by 2025. The company aims to inaugurate a new location in the city of Detroit as its first foray into another state in approximately two decades.

Known for its award-winning Made-to-Order menu, the retailer employs approximately 30 citizens on each site. The firm has invested over $70 million in store employee wages in 2021 as well as doubling the tuition assistance offered to employees through the company’s College Tuition Reimbursement program.

Sheetz is dedicated to being a great employer and neighbour and we cannot wait to put those values into action as we expand into our first new state in two decades,” said  Travis Sheetz, President and CEO of Sheetz, according to a company press release.

With the upcoming opening, the company will have stores located throughout seven states in the country. The news comes after the recent Kum & Go announcement of its expansion into Detroit by 2024.

Sheetz was founded in 1952 with its first store located in Altoona, Pennsylvania and currently operates a network that comprises 669 stores across the country. The family-owned firm employs more than 24,000 employees across its sites located in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland.
