Tesco powers up loyalty program with EV charging rewards

Shoppers earn points for powering up electric vehicles at over 600 store locations across the UK.

Tesco shoppers can now collect Clubcard points not only at the checkout but also while charging their electric vehicles, thanks to an expanded collaboration with electric vehicle (EV) charging provider Pod.

Clubcard members will earn one point for every £1 spent when using Pod’s Vauxhall-branded public chargers at Tesco locations in the UK. This milestone strengthens the retailer’s position as a leader in supporting the country’s shift toward e-mobility, offering added value to environmentally conscious consumers.

“Our customers have long been able to collect points on fuel from Tesco, but with an increasing number of drivers switching to electric vehicles, we are delighted that shoppers can now collect Clubcard points when charging their cars at our stores,” said Shama Wilson, Tesco’s Group Membership and Loyalty Director.

In addition to earning points at store chargers, new customers who sign up for Pod Drive, Pod’s home charging subscription, will receive a 2,500 Clubcard point bonus. This is equivalent to £25 in Clubcard Vouchers or up to £50 in value with Tesco’s Reward Partners.

“The more seamlessly EV charging fits into everyday routines, the easier the switch becomes,” added Melanie Lane, CEO of Pod.

The partnership, active since 2019, now includes over 2,600 EV charging bays at more than 600 Tesco store car parks across the UK.

This move not only reinforces Tesco’s commitment to sustainability but also positions the supermarket as a frontrunner in aligning loyalty programs with the green transition.
