Valora, the European retail arm of FEMSA, is extending its long-standing partnership with Swiss liquid energy supplier volenergy from Switzerland into Austria. The move follows volenergy's agreement with bp to acquire a network of 250 service stations in the country.

As part of the expansion, the two companies plan to develop Valora's Foodvenience concept, which combines convenience retail with freshly prepared food to-go, at bp stations across Austria.

"The expansion of our partnership with volenergy is an important development for our business in Austria. Together, we aim to bring our Foodvenience expertise to the Austrian market and develop compelling offerings for customers at bp service stations," said Roger Vogt, CEO of Valora Retail and Food Service.

Valora already operates 30 Ditsch, BackWerk and Press & Books locations in Austria, and has worked with volenergy at Swiss bp stations for several years. The Austrian extension is contingent on the completion of volenergy's acquisition and approval from the Austrian Federal Competition Authority (BWB).

"With Valora, we have an experienced partner that understands these changing needs and has extensive expertise in combining convenience retail with fresh food to-go," said Ramon Werner, CEO of volenergy.

Valora's Foodvenience strategy was recognized in 2025, when its avec flagship store in Zurich was named European Convenience Retailer of the Year, the first such honor for a retailer from German-speaking Europe.
