7-Eleven Hong Kong restores original 1981 store to mark anniversary
The international retailer has grown to more than 1,100 locations over the 45 years anniversary in Hong Kong.
7-Eleven Hong Kong has restored its very first store in Happy Valley to its original 1981 appearance, marking the convenience retailer's 45th anniversary in the city.
The Happy Valley location, affectionately known as "the little red house" for its distinctive red roof, has been returned to its 1980s design, complete with dark brick walls, recreated vintage 7-Eleven signage, and original promotional slogans from the era.
Inside, the restoration extends to cream-coloured walls, classic orange, green, and red tones, original menu boards, and a Hot Food Counter positioned exactly as it was when the store first opened.
"Walking in feels like stepping into a time tunnel," said Gloria Shiu, Marketing Director at 7-Eleven Hong Kong and Macau, on a LinkedIn post.
The anniversary milestone reflects the brand's deep roots in Hong Kong's everyday retail landscape. Since opening its first store in 1981, 7-Eleven has grown to more than 1,100 locations across Hong Kong and Macau, making it the leading convenience store network in the two territories. Both markets operate under DFI Retail Group, a member of the Jardine Matheson Group.
