Air Liquide inaugurates new hydrogen energy facility in Shanghai
The Shanghai Hydrogen Energy Supply Basin will support 12 hydrogen stations in refueling 1,000 medium-to-heavy-duty trucks daily.
Air Liquide has inaugurated the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park Air Liquide Shenergy Hydrogen Energy Development (ALSHSN), a new facility co-developed by the company and Shenergy.
The site marks a national first as China's inaugural 300 bar Type II facility, representing a critical advancement in energy infrastructure for both the city and the wider Yangtze River Delta region. Designed to provide high-pressure hydrogen to transportation customers, the facility will have an initial daily filling capacity of 12 tonnes, capable of supporting 12 hydrogen refueling stations.
Such characteristics will enable the refueling of over 1,000 medium-to-heavy-duty trucks each day.
"Through utilizing abundant industrial byproduct resources, we will be able to deliver low-carbon hydrogen to the local market, to make mobility much more cleaner," stated Rui Coelho, CEO of Air Liquide China.
ALSHSN is introducing 300 bar TYPE II trailers, improving logistical efficiency that translates to over 60% payload increase and lower transportation carbon emissions compared to 200 bar tube trailers.
ALSHSN supplies hydrogen to customers, using hydrogen produced through a CO2 recycling process at Shanghai Chemical Industry Park Industrial Gases, an Air Liquide subsidiary. The company will also source biomethane from Shenergy for part of the hydrogen production.
