Buc-ee’s plans first Utah store in Springville

Buc-ee’s, the Texas-based travel center chain known for its massive stores and roadside cult status, is preparing to open its first location in Utah. On Tuesday, the Springville City Council approved a memorandum of understanding and development agreement for a 74,000-square-foot site west of Interstate 15 near 1400 North and 2600 West.
While the deal is not yet final, Springville mayor Matt Packard said the city was confident the project would move forward. Buc-ee’s real estate director Stan Beard called Springville “the kind of community where we are going to prosper,” estimating construction could begin within a year and the store could open 15 to 18 months later.
As part of the agreement, Buc-ee’s will pay upfront for roadwork, utilities and other infrastructure, with the city reimbursing millions in costs deemed public improvements, including a sewer lift station, storm drains and traffic signals.
The project follows months of speculation after rumors pointed first to Spanish Fork before shifting to Springville. Founded in 1983, Buc-ee’s began expanding outside Texas in 2019 and has since opened locations in several states. Its arrival has often boosted local economies: officials in Johnstown, Colorado, say their Buc-ee’s, which opened in 2024, draws 80,000 visitors a month and adds about $1 million annually in tax revenue.
If finalized, Springville would host Utah’s first Buc-ee’s, bringing a travel stop known for its brisket sandwiches, oversized convenience aisles and spotless restrooms to the Wasatch Front.
