Clean Energy grows RNG portfolio across the U.S.
Multi‑sector agreements underscore continued adoption of renewable natural gas as a drop‑in clean fuel.
Clean Energy Fuels has announced a new series of agreements with trucking, waste and transit fleets across the United States, expanding the company’s renewable natural gas (RNG) supply and fueling infrastructure footprint.
The company has extended its partnership with Ecology Transportation Services, one of Southern California’s largest users of RNG for heavy‑duty trucking. The new supply agreement will provide an estimated 2.1 million gallons of RNG annually for Ecology’s fleet of 150 vehicles, fueled at Clean Energy stations across California, Arizona and Nevada.
Long‑time partner Recology is also expanding its use of RNG with upgrades to its Seattle‑area fueling network, including service at a new station in Snohomish, Washington. Clean Energy continues to provide operations and maintenance services for Recology sites as the hauler grows its regional operations. In addition, the company maintains more than 85 RNG stations for WM across the U.S. and Canada, supporting roughly 8,000 RNG‑powered refuse trucks.
On the transit side, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has renewed its operations and maintenance agreement, covering five million gallons of fuel for more than 400 natural gas buses. Clean Energy has signed similar service agreements with ABM Facility Services for three Phoenix bus depots and will supply RNG to 78 Arlington Transit buses in Virginia.
Additional extensions include the City of Scottsdale’s refuse fleet, Nashville International Airport’s shuttle buses, and the City of Fort Smith’s waste operations.
RNG continues to gain traction as a low‑carbon alternative, with lifecycle emissions significantly below diesel and, in many cases, achieving a negative carbon‑intensity score.
