CU has expanded its running-focused convenience store concept to Jeju Island, opening a new “running station” format location as part of a broader strategy to build a nationwide lifestyle platform. The move follows the rollout of 19 running-themed locations in Seoul’s Han River area since February and responds to growing demand for fitness-oriented retail spaces.

The new site, located along Jeju’s coastal road, combines traditional convenience retail on the ground floor with a dedicated running base camp on the second level. The space includes changing rooms, a powder area, rest zones and a curated selection of running-related products, alongside a photo zone overlooking the coastline.

The concept has driven strong commercial performance. CU reported that running-themed stores recorded a 168.9% increase in sales over a recent two-month period, with notable growth in products linked to exercise, including bottled water, sports drinks and energy snacks.

The location also serves as a starting point for curated running routes tailored to different levels, ranging from short urban runs to longer coastal circuits. These routes aim to attract both local runners and visitors seeking outdoor fitness experiences.

CU is also expanding its digital and community ecosystem. Its “Running Members” program, launched in April, has attracted more than 20,000 users within two months. The retailer is complementing this with in-person initiatives, including group runs and coaching sessions in partnership with Garmin.
