DoorDash to offer flexible payment options
Users will be able to pay immediately, divide the total into four equal interest-free installments, or defer payments to a more suitable date.
In a move aimed at enhancing customer convenience, DoorDash has announced a partnership with payment service provider Klarna to introduce flexible payment options at checkout.
This collaboration will allow users to choose from three different payment methods: paying immediately, dividing the total into four equal interest-free installments, or deferring payments to a more suitable date, such as one aligned with their paycheck schedule.
“As we expand DoorDash’s offerings—from groceries and beauty to electronics and gifts—flexible payment options are essential to meeting our customers’ needs,” said Anand Subbarayan, head of money products at DoorDash.
However, the growing popularity of buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) services has raised concerns among financial experts. While these services offer added convenience, they may also encourage impulsive spending and lead to financial difficulties for customers who may purchase items they cannot afford.
Despite these concerns, BNPL services are becoming increasingly common in the U.S. Klarna itself reports having 675,000 merchant partners in 26 countries, with 93 million active consumers. The company also recently announced that retail giant Walmart will use its buy-now-pay-later loan service.
DoorDash is not the only delivery platform leveraging these payment options, as one of its main competitors, Grubhub, also offers customers the option to defer payments using the supplier’s services.
