Galp, BMW open Iberia’s largest EV charging hub in Madrid
116 charging points installed at Intu Xanadú shopping center, serving over 12 million annual visitors.
Galp and the BMW Group have inaugurated the largest electric vehicle (EV) charging park in the Iberian Peninsula at the Intu Xanadú shopping center in Arroyomolinos, Madrid.
The site features 116 charging points, including 16 ultra-fast (180 kW) and 100 semi-fast (22 kW) units, offering a total capacity of more than 3.6 MW. This facility enables the simultaneous charging of multiple vehicles without saturation risk and is strategically located in the Spanish capital, reinforcing both companies’ commitment to electrification and the development of long-distance charging corridors across Spain and Portugal.
“This project demonstrates our strong commitment to sustainable mobility and reflects Spain’s importance in our strategy,” said João Diogo Marques da Silva, Co-CEO of Galp, noting that the company has invested over €1.3 billion in Spain in the past five years, positioning itself as a leading solar energy producer and mobility provider with more than 550 service stations and a growing EV charging network.
For BMW, the hub is a key step in supporting EV adoption. “A wide and powerful charging station like Xanadú is strategic for meeting current and future needs,” said Manuel Terroba, CEO of BMW Group Iberia, pointing to the evolution in both EV technology and charging infrastructure since the launch of the BMW i3 in 2013.
Galp’s charging infrastructure has nearly doubled annually since 2020, expanding from 500 to 8,500 chargers. At Intu Xanadú, users can add 100 km of range in just six minutes with ultra-fast chargers, or in about 90 minutes using semi-fast units.
