Galp completes ultra-fast EV charging corridor in Portugal
€6.1 million investment delivers 96 high-power chargers along A1 and A2 highways.
Galp has completed an ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging corridor connecting northern and southern Portugal, with the launch of a new hub in Pombal marking the final phase of a €6.1 million investment. The network spans the A1 and A2 motorways, linking Porto and the Algarve with 96 ultra-fast charging points distributed across eight hubs.
The infrastructure delivers a combined capacity of 20 MW and is located at key service areas including Pombal and Aveiras on the A1, and Alcácer do Sal and Aljustrel on the A2. The project is designed to support long-distance travel and address growing demand for e-mobility across major road corridors.
The charging hubs are equipped to significantly reduce charging times, allowing drivers to recover usable battery capacity in under 20 minutes, depending on vehicle capability. Facilities are integrated into motorway service areas with amenities such as covered spaces, lighting and payment systems to enhance user experience.
Portugal’s Minister of Infrastructure, Miguel Pinto Luz, highlighted the importance of expanding charging infrastructure alongside rising EV adoption, noting the country ranks among Europe’s leading markets for electric vehicles.

The project forms part of Galp’s broader strategy to scale sustainable mobility solutions across the Iberian Peninsula. The company has been expanding its EV charging network rapidly, with more than 10,000 public and private charging points now installed across Portugal and Spain.
