Global Partners tackles textile waste via new partnership
The convenient clothing collection program alongside Helpsy advances sustainability across Massachusetts and beyond.
Global Partners is introducing a large-scale textile recycling initiative in collaboration with Helpsy aimed at reducing landfill waste.
Supported by the company's “Global for Good” sustainability platform, the collaboration has placed collection bins at 32 Global-owned convenience markets and fueling stations. These offer local communities a convenient and responsible way to recycle textiles.
"More than 85% of clothing ends up discarded, contributing significantly to landfill waste and environmental harm. Our partnership with Helpsy represents a critical step in diverting textiles from landfills, reducing emissions, and promoting sustainable habits," said Jonathan Hackett, Senior Director of Environmental Products at Global Partners.
Collected textiles are sorted by Helpsy to determine the best future for each item, whether resale, repair, or repurposing into cleaning materials or insulation.
Originally launched as a pilot project in April 2024 with 12 collection sites, the program has already collected approximately 137,000 pounds of textiles as of February 2025. Building on the program’s success, Global Partners plans to expand the number of collection bins across additional sites in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
