GRIDSERVE opens fifth and largest electric forecourt in the UK
The chargers run on 100% net zero energy, with the retail building above the charging area powered by 138 rooftop solar panels.
GRIDSERVE has opened its fifth and most advanced Electric Forecourt, located at Junction 29A of the M1 in the East Midlands. The flagship site features 39 ultra-rapid charging bays from launch, including 36 bays for passenger vehicles and three drive-through bays for electric HGVs, coaches, vans and towing vehicles, plus three dedicated accessible bays near the main entrance.
Each bay is equipped with ABB's 400kW-capable charging units, and a new grid connection allows compatible vehicles to add more than 200 miles of range in under 10 minutes. Customers can pay via contactless card, the GRIDSERVE app or third-party roaming partners, with live availability shown on the app and platforms including Zapmap.
"Today's drivers expect charging to be superfast, reliable and convenient and that's exactly what this site delivers," said Rebecca Trebble, Chief Customer Officer at GRIDSERVE.

The site includes a Costa Coffee, a Little Fresh convenience store and a premium lounge, open to visitors from 06:00 to 21:00 in summer, while charging operates 24/7.
"Markham Vale is another fantastic milestone in a year that is already proving highly significant for both GRIDSERVE and the EV industry," said CEO Daniel Kunkel, noting BEVs represented nearly one in four UK registrations so far in 2026.
