Ionity deploys first Alpitronic megawatt charger in France
New HYC1000 system boosts charging speeds as the network surpasses 6,000 points across Europe.
Ionity has installed its first Alpitronic HYC1000 megawatt‑class charging system in France, marking a key milestone as the company reaches 6,000 high‑power charging points across 24 European countries.
The new chargers, now operating at the Ionity Sorgues station on the A7 motorway, can deliver up to 600 kW when a single vehicle is connected. Powered by a 1,000 kW central cabinet, the system distributes charging capacity dynamically based on real‑time site usage.
This installation is the first public deployment of Alpitronic’s HYC1000 technology on the Ionity network. Before going live, the system underwent extensive testing at the company’s facility near Munich to validate performance and long‑term reliability.
Jeroen van Tilburg, CEO of Ionity, said: “By introducing charging power of up to 600 kW in France and reaching 6,000 charging points across the network, we are strengthening our infrastructure to support the next generation of electric vehicles and facilitate long journeys.”
The Sorgues site now features six HYC1000 chargers, significantly increasing its overall capacity and aiming to reduce peak‑time waiting.
This expansion supports growing EV adoption in France, one of Ionity’s fastest‑developing markets. The company currently operates 60 sites with VINCI Autoroutes and 15 with Avia Thévenin Ducrot Autoroutes nationwide.
