Molgas Group launches its first LNG station in Greece
Capable of CNG refueling as well, the new site marks the company’s nationwide expansion with a second location set to be opened soon.
Molgas Group has inaugurated the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) refueling station in Greece, strategically located in Thessaloniki.
This facility, developed by Blue Grid—a leading Greek company acquired by Molgas in 2022—serves both heavy-duty vehicles and lighter commercial vehicles and private cars. The location marks the beginning of Molgas' nationwide LNG network, with a second station set to open in Magoula, Attica, later this month.
The new site not only promises a reduction in operating costs by over 30% for the country’s aging truck fleet but also significantly cuts emissions.
"LNG and bio-LNG present significant value for Greek carriers, and we are here to support them in unlocking this potential," explained Alexandros Lagakos, Head of Molgas in Southeast Europe, about the company’s further expansions in Patras and Ioannina.
Additionally, the station provides CNG, catering to smaller vehicles and private cars, with the CNG produced from LNG, delivering enhanced energy efficiency compared to traditional methods.
Looking ahead, Molgas plans to introduce bio-LNG, a renewable form of LNG, at its stations across Greece, contingent upon the passage of a national biomethane framework. This will enable Greek carriers to achieve net-zero carbon footprints, further advancing the country’s transition to sustainable energy.
