Preem launches Nordic Swan-Labeled renewable diesel
The Swedish company plans to expand both domestically and internationally.
Preem is introducing Preem Redefine HVO100, a renewable diesel certified by the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and free of fossil content.
Backed by Sweden’s key environmental agencies, renewable fuels are seen as essential to meeting climate targets. Preem’s new HVO100 reduces fossil emissions by at least 90% compared to conventional diesel and can be used in most existing diesel vehicles without modifications.
“As Sweden’s largest fuel producer, we’re committed to making a real difference. This product makes it easy for customers to switch from fossil to renewable fuel,” said CEO Magnus Heimburg.
Produced at Preem’s Gothenburg refinery, the fuel is made from by-products of the pulp and food industries and excludes palm and soy oils, meeting the Nordic Swan’s strict environmental standards.
With over 1.5 million diesel passenger cars in Sweden and diesel dominating the freight sector, the potential is substantial. Preem estimates that replacing conventional diesel with its renewable counterpart could reduce emissions by up to 846,500 tons of CO₂ annually—the equivalent of removing 300,000 diesel cars from the roads.
Initially available at 59 Preem stations starting May 2025, the company plans to expand both domestically and internationally.
