Puma Energy opens Africa’s largest CNG station in Tanzania
The high‑capacity Dar es Salaam facility supports rising demand for lower‑carbon fuel.
Puma Energy has inaugurated Africa’s largest compressed natural gas (CNG) “mother” station in Dar es Salaam, marking a significant milestone in Tanzania’s efforts to diversify its energy mix and accelerate its transition toward lower‑carbon alternatives.
The new high‑capacity facility was opened by Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba and is designed to meet rapidly increasing demand for CNG, an affordable, lower‑emission substitute for petrol and diesel. Its launch underscores Tanzania’s growing push to expand cleaner transport fuels and strengthen domestic energy resilience.
By supplying CNG for distribution across the country, the facility is expected to play a central role in scaling up infrastructure to support both private motorists and commercial fleets.
Fatma M Abdallah, General Manager for Tanzania, emphasized the long‑term vision behind the project. “his CNG Mother Station is more than just infrastructure; it is a symbol of our long-term confidence in Tanzania and our commitment to creating shared value,” she said.
For Puma Energy, the development reflects a broader strategy to invest in energy solutions that balance affordability, sustainability, and security of supply.
The opening of the Dar es Salaam CNG Mother Station positions the company as a key contributor to Tanzania’s cleaner‑fuel future, supporting national goals to expand access to lower‑carbon energy while reducing transport‑related emissions.
