REWE To Go opens new smart store in Stuttgart and flagship site in Munich
REWE Group and Lekkerland continue nationwide expansion of smart convenience concept.
REWE To Go, the convenience brand of the REWE Group developed in collaboration with Lekkerland, continues to grow its national presence with the launch of two new locations. These include an AI-powered unmanned store at Stuttgart University S-Bahn station and a large-format store in the Stachus-Passagen shopping center in Munich.
Located in a redesigned glass pavilion that also houses Deutsche Bahn’s video travel center, the 25-square-meter REWE To Go in Stuttgart offers 24/7 access to fresh snacks, drinks, coffee, tobacco, and ready-to-eat meals. The store operates entirely without cashiers or staff, using AI-supported technology with cameras and weight sensors to automatically detect and charge for items selected by the customer after scanning a cashless payment method.
This is one of 11 fully autonomous REWE To Go locations in Germany, with others located in Frankfurt Airport, Koblenz Central Station, Aral EV charging parks, and hospitals. These complement the brand’s broader network of over 900 locations, the majority of which are traditional stores staffed and operated at Aral service stations.
Just weeks after the Stuttgart opening, the company has also launched a new flagship store in Munich, inside the high-traffic Stachus-Passagen shopping center at Karlsplatz.
The 220-square-meter location serves the needs of shoppers, commuters, and travelers passing through one of Munich’s busiest public transport hubs. The store features a wide assortment, highlighted by a “Fresh Island” with ten jumbo refrigerators stocked with sandwiches, salads, bowls, sushi, and chilled meals.
The two new locations reflect REWE To Go’s continued evolution as a leading player in urban, flexible convenience retailing, combining smart technologies with a fresh and modern product offer.
