Sainsbury’s reaches 500 ultra-rapid EV charging hubs
The UK supermarket reports a milestone with the launch of its latest ultra-rapid EV charging service.
Sainsbury’s recently launched its 500th ultra-rapid charging bay across 62 locations in the UK. This growth underscores the supermarket chain’s commitment to enhancing electric vehicle accessibility.
The Smart Charge service, introduced just a year ago, now offers 150kW charging bays that enable drivers to fully charge their EVs in about 30 minutes. Each hub is powered by 100% renewable energy, aligning with Sainsbury’s broader sustainability goals. Designed with inclusivity in mind, the hubs also feature accessible bays, ensuring all drivers can use the service with ease.
Currently, Sainsbury’s is the only UK supermarket that owns and operates its own ultra-rapid EV charging network, offering drivers a convenient, on-the-go charging solution while providing Nectar points for every pound spent on charging. With an average of one new hub opening per week, the company aims to continue expanding its network in areas with high demand for EV infrastructure.
As Sainsbury’s progresses with its Smart Charge rollout, the supermarket chain remains focused on facilitating EV adoption and supporting the UK’s transition to a low-emission economy.
