Shell Austria names Rainer Klöpfer new CEO
He takes over as Chairman of Shell Austria and will continue to lead the company into a lower CO2 future.
Rainer Klöpfer is replacing Gert Seybold as the CEO of Shell Austria and will lead the company in this new phase. Seybold is retiring after 13 years in the position of CEO.
Klöpfer has the goal of driving the energy transition in Austria and further accelerating the transformation of Shell Austria into a net-zero emissions company
"We want Shell to become the leading provider of low-CO2 mobility solutions in Austria. Whether e-charging stations, green hydrogen or BioLNG, Shell will provide different options in Austria to secure the supply of today and tomorrow,” says Klöpfer.
"Thanks to our broad spectrum, we at Shell have the opportunity to make a difference. Whether it is REPHYNE, Europe's largest PEM electrolysis for the production of green hydrogen, Bio-LNG from the Rhineland, or charging at street lamps with Ubritricity, we want to make these solutions accessible in Austria," says Sabine Hauser, Head of the Legal Department at Shell Austria.
In 2017, Shell acquired NewMotion, then Europe's largest charging provider, which has since been renamed Shell Recharge and also operates in Austria. Since 2022, Shell has been working with REWE in Austria to install Shell Recharge fast charging points at supermarkets. Shell is also building BioLNG stations that will be supplied with fuel from the Rhineland.
