Vietnam city to supply biofuel to all gas stations
Ho Chi Minh City’s Department of Industry and Trade has announced that ethanol gasoline E5 will be available at all gas stations in the city by December 31, reported Vietnam News.
The move aims to promote E5 (A92-RON petrol containing 5 percent ethanol) among consumers and to further boost its sales.
The sales of E5 fuel, which is currently available in more than half of the gas stations in the city, remain low due to differences in pricing, low profits, and consumers’ consumption habits and awareness of the biofuel’s benefits.
To address these issues, the city government has required gas stations to hang informative banners about the benefits of using E5, provide at least one pump for it, and gradually reduce the supply of A92 fuel.
Le Ngoc Dao, the department's deputy director, also suggested that preferential policy and price cuts should be given to E5.
Ho Chi Minh City is one of the seven localities that are implementing the pilot supply of E5 fuel by the Government. Other participating cities include Hanoi, Haiphong, Danang, Cantho, and the provinces of Ba Ria-Vung Tau and Quang Ngai.
