Wawa opens 1,000th fueling location

Milestone marks more than a century of growth for the iconic convenience chain.

Wawa has reached a historic milestone, opening its 1,000th fuel store in the same Pennsylvania county where its story began over 120 years ago. The new location officially opened last week, becoming the second store in the township alongside its Saxer Avenue and Powell Road site.

The new site spans more than 720 m2, offering the brand’s signature food and beverage options alongside fueling services for both everyday drivers and professional truckers. The site includes a dedicated high-speed diesel court designed for tractor-trailer needs, featuring six lanes that accept over-the-road payments, as well as 20 fueling spots for passenger vehicles.

While Wawa operates more than 1,175 stores across multiple states, not all locations offer gasoline. The company introduced fuel service in 1996 with its first gas station in Millsboro, Delaware, a move that helped transform Wawa into a roadside icon blending convenience retail with fueling services.

This latest opening underscores Wawa’s continued expansion and its connection to Pennsylvania roots, as the brand looks ahead to future growth while honoring its history.
