Sainsbury’s has agreed to sell its eight petrol stations in Northern Ireland to Go Forecourts, the fuel retail business of local energy company LCC Group. The stations will transfer one by one over the next six to 12 months. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The forecourts are located in West Belfast, Bangor, Ballymena, Coleraine, Dungannon, Forestside, Sprucefield and Holywood Exchange. Go plans to modernise them and turn them into self-service, pay-at-pump stations, as reported by Grocery Gazette. They will add to its network of 26 forecourts in Northern Ireland and 10 in the Republic of Ireland.

The sale ends the retailer’s presence in Northern Ireland’s fuel market, while its 12 supermarkets in the region continue to operate. Sainsbury’s is also expanding its grocery footprint there. A store on a former Homebase site in Omagh is expected to open in November, and another is planned at Crescent Link Retail Park.
