Weigel’s adds gamified badges to loyalty app
The new digital collectibles feature is designed to increase customer engagement and reward purchasing behavior.
Weigel’s has introduced a new gamification feature called Badges within its MyWeigel’s Rewards program, giving customers a new way to interact with the retailer beyond traditional points and discounts.
The feature allows users to earn digital badges based on their shopping activity, creating a collection that can be viewed and shared through the retailer’s mobile app. The initiative is part of the company’s broader strategy to strengthen engagement within its loyalty platform.
The first collectible introduced through the program is the Knox Hot Jalapeño Badge. Customers who purchase the Knox Hot Jalapeño product automatically receive the badge in the app, turning a transaction into a digital collectible tied to the brand.
According to Weigel’s, the launch reflects a wider trend in loyalty programs, where retailers and consumer brands are incorporating digital recognition, challenges and collectible rewards to encourage more frequent participation. The company said the feature is intended to bring those engagement tools into the convenience retail sector while maintaining a connection to customers’ everyday purchases.
Each badge has been created exclusively for the chain by graphic designer Matthew Amati and is designed to reflect the retailer’s products, culture and customer experience. Additional badges are expected to be introduced over time, allowing users to build personalized collections.
