SHARGE, Grab launch exclusive EV charging stations across Thailand

Partnership aims to accelerate EV adoption and lower operating costs throughout the country.

SHARGE has entered into a strategic partnership with Grab to develop Thailand’s first electric vehicle (EV) charging stations built exclusively for Grab drivers. The initiative, backed by an investment of more than THB 400 million ($12.9 million), is expected to deliver 40 charging stations nationwide by 2027.

The rollout will begin with three pilot locations at Suvarnabhumi Airport, Don Mueang Airport, and Pattaya. Each site will offer fast‑charging capabilities that can fully charge a vehicle in about 20 minutes, with a dedicated starting rate of THB 6 per kWh ($0.19) for Grab drivers. The collaboration is designed to help drivers reduce operating expenses while supporting broader EV adoption in the ride‑hailing sector.

Peerapatr Sirichantaropart, Chief Executive Officer of SHARGE Management Company Limited, said: “The Grab EV Charging Station marks SHARGE’s first full-scale investment in electric vehicle charging stations in collaboration with a strategic partner like Grab.”

He noted that more than 60% of Grab drivers operating in the pilot areas already use EVs, making the initial three sites especially impactful.

Parichat Sriwilai, Deputy Director of Driver Management at Grab Thailand, emphasized the company’s leadership in electrification: “Since 2020, Grab Thailand has been at the forefront of promoting EV adoption among drivers and riders… Today, Grab is home to tens of thousands of EV drivers nationwide.”

The future network will feature high‑capacity charging hubs equipped with 12 chargers per station, supporting more than 700 charging sessions per day and compatible with all four‑wheel EV models.
