7-Eleven has entered into a partnership with the Korea Institute for Food Safety Management Accreditation to expand the number of certified Safe Food Establishments across South Korea, aiming to strengthen hygiene standards and consumer confidence in in-store prepared foods. The agreement focuses on enhancing food safety practices in convenience stores, particularly those located near designated school safety zones.

The Safe Food Establishment program evaluates stores that prepare items such as instant chicken and roasted sweet potatoes on-site, based on national hygiene standards. Certified locations receive official recognition and operational benefits, including certification signage that highlights compliance with enhanced food safety requirements.

Under the agreement, both parties will conduct tailored on-site hygiene consulting and inspections. These include checks on freezer conditions, storage practices, and kitchen cleanliness, combining the institute’s evaluation framework with 7-Eleven’s operational expertise in convenience retail.

The initiative also integrates 7-Eleven’s internal hygiene protocols, covering aspects such as cooking procedures, equipment management, and product labeling. The focus will initially be on stores located near Green Food Zones, areas designated to promote safer food environments for children around schools.

As part of the rollout, 7-Eleven plans to nearly triple the number of certified stores nationwide within 2026, reflecting growing demand for safe and convenient ready-to-eat food options.
