Seven & i Holdings and Seven-Eleven Japan have announced strategic partnerships with SoftBank, PayPay, LY Corporation and Sumitomo Mitsui Card to accelerate the integration of physical retail and digital services across Japan’s largest convenience store network.

The agreement is supported by capital partnerships totaling ¥300 billion, including ¥100 billion investments each with SoftBank, PayPay and Sumitomo Mitsui Card. The companies aim to leverage technology, payments, loyalty programs and data capabilities to develop next-generation customer experiences and retail infrastructure.

At the center of the initiative is Seven-Eleven Japan’s network of more than 20,000 stores, which serves approximately 20 million customers daily. The partners plan to combine these physical touchpoints with digital platforms, artificial intelligence, cashless payment solutions and customer data to create more personalized and seamless shopping experiences.

“This partnership is an important step in further accelerating our Group's growth strategy to become customers' first choice for convenience,” said Steve Dacus, President and CEO of Seven & i Holdings.

Near-term plans include integrating Seven & i’s 7iD membership platform with PayPay accounts, introducing PayPay Points and V Points as rewards that can be earned and redeemed in 7-Eleven stores, and launching joint promotions across the participating platforms. The companies also intend to expand customer services through mini apps available via PayPay, LINE and Sumitomo Mitsui Card channels.

Future phases of the partnership will focus on data-driven personalization, retail media opportunities and AI-powered store operations. SoftBank’s technologies are expected to support tasks such as customer traffic analysis, supply chain optimization and operational automation.
