Anaergia, Eni and CREvolution launch circular economy platform
The partners aim to create a replicable model for a rapidly expanding market, with over 250 HVO plants worldwide.
Anaergia, Eni and CREvolution have unveiled a €50 million circular‑economy project at Eni’s Gela biorefinery, aimed at scaling production of HVO, biodiesel and SAF. The initiative uses Anaergia’s anaerobic digestion technology alongside thermal treatment to recover more than 80% of degumming soil residues, material that often ends up in landfill. It is expected to generate over 70,000 MWh of renewable natural gas annually and cut waste‑disposal and operating costs, with completion targeted for May 2027.

By converting challenging waste streams into reusable materials and energy, the Gela site will act as a global demonstration facility for low‑carbon biorefining.
Executives from all three companies say the project sets a new benchmark for circular HVO production and strengthens their position in the global energy‑transition supply chain.
