Applegreen to overhaul 18 highway stations in Massachusetts

The retailer will build nine new sites and modernize nine more, transforming the roadside travel experience across the state.

Applegreen has secured a long-term contract from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to rebuild, remodel, and operate 18 highway service stations.

The $750 million initiative marks one of the most ambitious infrastructure investments in the state's roadside hospitality network. This transformation will see the development of nine brand-new service plazas and the modernization of nine existing sites, with the goal of delivering a state-of-the-art experience for both local residents and travelers.

“Service plazas are more than just fuel and food—they’re an extension of the Commonwealth’s public image and a valuable community asset. We’re committed to delivering world-class facilities that reflect the importance of these spaces for travelers and the local economy alike,” the company stated on LinkedIn.

The redesigned facilities aim to radically improve the customer experience, with a strong focus on quality, convenience, and community integration.

The project is being delivered in partnership with Suffolk Construction and Upland Architects, and in coordination with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT). Applegreen views this as a flagship project for its continued expansion in North America, and a milestone in shaping the future of roadside services in Massachusetts.
