Aral introduces integrated points earning at the pump
Customers can now collect PAYBACK points automatically when paying with a linked Sparkassen‑Card.
Aral customers in Germany can now collect PAYBACK points automatically when paying with a linked Sparkassen‑Card, marking the latest expansion of the nationwide loyalty partnership. The feature, already available at regional partners and retailers such as EDEKA and Netto, is now extended to Aral stations across the country.
To earn points, customers must link their Sparkassen‑Card to their PAYBACK account via online banking or the Sparkasse app. Once linked, points are credited automatically without needing to show a PAYBACK card.
Achim Bothe, CEO of Aral AG, said the integration simplifies everyday transactions for millions of customers. “This option greatly simplifies the everyday lives of our customers: simply refuel, pay and collect points directly — all at once. We call it ‘Bezammeln’ (collecting). It makes visiting our Aral stations even more convenient and attractive.”
PAYBACK is one of Germany’s largest loyalty ecosystems, used by more than 35 million customers and partnered with over 700 companies. The Sparkassen‑Finanzgruppe, represented by 343 savings banks and the German Savings Banks Association (DSGV), is Europe’s largest financial group with more than 36 million current accounts, making Sparkassen‑Card integration a major step for mass adoption.
According to the DSGV, the rollout marks a major step in expanding a seamless customer journey. Dr. Joachim Schmalzl, Board Member of the DSGV, said: “What began with regional partners has been consistently expanded to national players such as EDEKA and Netto — and now Aral follows.”
Points can be collected and redeemed at Aral for fuel, EV charging at more than 3,900 Aral pulse charging points, fresh snacks, coffee and car‑wash services at participating stations. Current PAYBACK rewards include one point per two liters of fuel or two kilowatt‑hours of electricity, with higher returns available through promotional coupons.
