BayWa unveils first XL charging hub in Germany

Rosenheim site sets new benchmark with ultra-rapid charging, truck access, and on-site amenities as part of the country’s national charging initiative

BayWa Mobility Solutions has opened a major new charging hub in Rosenheim, Bavaria, its first XL-format site developed under the country’s Deutschlandnetz (National Charging Network) initiative.

The centrally located site features eight Alpitronic 400 kW hyperchargers, offering a total of 16 ultra-rapid charging points powered by 100% renewable energy. Designed for both private and commercial electric vehicles (EV), the Rosenheim hub includes a dedicated charging lane for electric trucks, built to accommodate heavy-duty vehicles and large trailers of up to 40 tonnes.

Located less than a kilometre from Rosenheim’s city centre on a former gravel site, visitors can enjoy a modern bistro, walking paths along the nearby river Inn, free Wi-Fi, and covered seating.

"With Rosenheim, we’re showing what’s possible in modern charging infrastructure—in terms of technology, comfort, and sustainability. This XL site is an important milestone in our contribution to the Deutschlandnetz,” said Christian Krüger, Managing Director of BayWa Mobility Solutions.

A standout feature is the solar canopy, built with glass-glass photovoltaic modules on a sustainable wood structure, providing shade and weather protection while generating on-site electricity. Additional green energy is sourced through BayWa’s renewable energy subsidiary, BayWa r.e., from external wind and solar farms.

As part of its bid for the Bavaria segment of the federal network, BayWa Mobility Solutions is developing 20 charging hubs across the state by the end of 2026, supported by a €15 million investment.
